Committees of the JDS Board of Directors
Education Committee:
The goal is to assist the administration in setting and maintaining the educational standards of the Jewish Day School.
Nutrition and Wellness Committee (subcommittee of Education):
The goal is to oversee and assist the administration in the nutritional and wellness needs of the students at the school and make sure the state mandates are adhered to so that that school can receive related funding.
Finance Committee:
The goal is to oversee the financial solvency of the JDS. This includes submitting the proper reports as stated in the bylaws, as well working with the principal to work out an educationally beneficial budget. The committee needs to inform the board so that it understands the financial obligations and so that the board can assist in making the JDS fiscally responsible through a variety of funding avenues.
House Committee:
The goal is to ensure that the School’s physical plant and facilities are in working order and maintained.
Bylaws and Policies Committee:
The goal is to provide an annual review and update of the School’s bylaws and policies to bring forward any recommended modifications to the board for discussion and/or action.
Charter for Marketing Committee:
The goal is to advance the School’s mission by raising awareness and preference among potential students and their parents.
Charter for Financial Assistance Committee:
The goal is to provide an objective review and recommendation of all financial aide applicants.
Charter for Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee:
The goal is to ensure the long-term viability of the School and its mission by defining specific strategies to ensure future success.
Charter for Trustee Committee (nominating):
The goal is to identify and recruit strong members to the board committees and the board of directors. The committee looks for individuals who will contribute to a learning culture, who work well with other people, and who are eager to learn and share good practice. The committee also orients new trustees to their roles and responsibilities including financial obligations.
Alumni & Friends Development Committee:
The goal is to oversee updating the database of alumni, past parents, grandparent and friends. To cultivate a connection through communications and assist with annual campaigns targeted at this group.
Charter for Fundraising Committee:
The goal is to be responsible for setting realistic goals and determining fundraising campaigns and events. Conducting and then evaluating the success of the fundraisers and the goals set.
Charter for Dinner Dance Committee (subcommittee of the Fundraising Committee):
The goal is to execute a successful Dinner Dance event with the clear objective of raising funds to support the School.
Charter for Grant Committee:
The goal is to identify applicable grants to support the school and execute submissions with the intent of achieving another source of funding for the School.
Charter for Recruitment and Retention Committee:
The goal is to focus on developing the channels to identify and recruit new students for the school to maximize capacity. In addition, the committee will focus on proposing ways in which student retention can be improved.
Charter for Israeli Shlichim Committee:
The goal is to address needs of the JDS Israeli shlichim (Bat Ami volunteers and Israeli teachers) as well as their families. The Shlichim contributions are extremely important to the culture and spirit of our school both in terms of advancement of Hebrew language and connection to the State of Israel.
Charter for Head of School Supervision and Review Committee:
The goal of the committee is to work with the Principal to create a forum for mid-year and end-of-year review and establishing goals and objectives. Also to assist in other responsibilities that the board might need to handle, including but not limited to contract negotiations.
