What makes the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley the pre-eminent
private Jewish elementary and middle school in the Lehigh Valley,
and the school of choice for children who commute to and from
school for as long as two hours each day?
- A caring faculty
- A meaningful, enriching Judaics/Hebrew
program
- A rigorous Secular curriculum
Our Caring Faculty
The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley prides itself
on the commitment each teacher and staff member feels and
displays toward each student. Our central institutional
goal is to raise well-adjusted, well-educated children,
and this goal is felt at every level of JDS, from board
to faculty to administration. Small class sizes enable
our faculty and aides to focus on the special educational
and social needs of individual children, while ensuring
that the entire class maintains consistent growth. We are
dedicated to supporting a healthy teacher/student ratio,
hiring aides and additional staff wherever needed in order
to ensure that the students receive the attention they
need. Further, our teacher attrition rate is low, a fact
which testifies to the comfort our teachers feel in working
at JDS. The low rate of turnover ensures that our teachers
are comfortable with our academic program, and it enables
new teachers to receive guidance from other, more experienced
staff.
Our Meaningful, Enriching Judaics Program
The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley is a Community
School, meaning that we offer a skills-oriented, culturally-rich
Judaics and Hebrew language program that serves Jewish
children of all affiliations, backgrounds and beliefs.
We offer early bilingual studies, training our children
to recognize and write Hebrew characters and to decode
words and sentences. Our early grades make use of the Tal
Am program to strengthen their Hebrew skills. Our students
learn Hebrew literature, and develop their conversational
Hebrew. Our Judaics curriculum encourages our children
to celebrate traditional Jewish culture, such as Shabbat
and holidays and prayers. We introduce our students to
the classic Jewish texts, including the Siddur and Tanach.
Our entire program is presented with an approach that is
sensitive to the diversity of our student body, and we
develop in all of our students a respectful approach to
the many different ways in which Jews practice Judaism.
Our Rigorous Secular Curriculum
The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley offers a General
Studies Program that promotes excellence in liberal arts
as well as the sciences. Our Jewish values drive this pursuit
of secular pre-eminence; we believe that learning about
our world will create well-rounded Jewish people. Toward
this end we continually refine our curriculum to ensure
that our students receive the best possible all-around
education. Our ERB standardized-test scores testify to
the quality of our curriculum; measured against private
schools as well as public, both urban and rural, our students'
grades are consistently among the best. Our children continue
on to fine high schools, and eventually to top-flight colleges
and graduate schools.
