Pillar of the Community: Jeanette Eichenwald
Jeanette Eichenwald - community leader, educator, administrator, communicator - is the beloved teacher of Tuesday and Thursday Yachad classes, and has been a vocal member of both the Allentown School District Board of Directors and Allentown City Council. While President of JFLV, she partnered with Muhlenberg College to present a Youth & Prejudice Conference/ teacher's workshop regarding the Holocaust. Additionally, Muhlenberg College presents the annual Jeanette Eichenwald Interfaith Award to a deserving student. Professionally she and her husband, Eduardo, founded the premier high tech company in the Lehigh Valley.
Educator of the Year: Brian Goldman
Mr. Goldman was the first-ever selection for JDS’s Educator of the Year award. The committee noted his emphasis on writing and his success at teaching this crucial skill, the high scores of Mr. Goldman’s students on the PSATs, the attainments of his students in high school English, and his ability to forge a close relationship with every student.
Since moving to the Lehigh Valley, it’s one of our favorite traditions to join the community in celebrating the Jewish Day School on the first Saturday night of December. That means this year, JDS’ 66th, the event will be at the Jewish Community Center on Saturday, December 7 at 7:30 PM. But aside from the event details and familiar faces, traditions are about to change.
The JDS 66th Annual Event (formerly known affectionately as the Gala) will feature the presentation of the Pillar of the Community award to Jeanette Eichenwald, and the Educator of the Year award to Brian Goldman.
The community has come to expect delicious Glatt Kosher fare and spirited live auction with NYC auctioneer Barry Cherwin. But unlike in years past, this year the Annual Event will feature dressy casual attire. It is hoped that this change will reflect in a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere among the JDS community and friends.
Register to attend the 66th Annual Event by calling the JDS office at 610-437-0721. RSVPs to the event are most welcome until November 11.
